New for 2021, Brian’s Custom Sports has released the offshore version of the widely popular Brian’s Optik 2 line, the Brian’s Optik X2 Junior Goalie Leg Pads. Starting off with the face of the Brian’s Optik X2, the graphic features a similar graphic to the domestic Optik 2. With aggressive lines and edges, mixed with strategic polymesh vents, this graphic really stands out. Next to the graphic, you will see a streamlined outer roll which helps reduce overall weight, increase flex and aid in better five-hole closure. Looking at the outer shape of the Optik X2 Junior, you will notice a pre-curve like the MAX core found on the Optik 2. With double internal breaks, this pad will curve to your desired shape. At the toe, the X2 pads come with an 80-degree toe taper. This design offers easier transitions in and out of the butterfly with harder rebounds to help direct pucks naturally into the corners of the rink. Next on to the inside edge of the Brian’s Optik X2 Leg Pads, Brian’s has used their Primo material that helps make butterfly slides easier and more efficient. This sliding edge also features a pro binding design where the binding is recessed into the pad with the slide plates over the top to optimize the sliding surface for efficiency. On the leg channel, Brian’s has used a slightly wider leg channel than the previous model to allow for a comfortable fit throughout the leg pad. The leg channel is closed off with a large Velcro strap that wraps across the back of the calf. At the knee, you will find a 2 inch wide elastic strap that can either run across the knee or down to the calf. If you choose to run the strap down to the calf, the outer knee flap can be removed via a small lace bridge. Down at the boot, Brian’s has continued the use of their smart strap system. The Smart Boot Strap is made with high-grade nylon that is commonly used in seat belts to provide the durability the goaltender needs in a boot strap. This strap is fully adjustable for the goaltender to help find their most effective fit and feel. Capping off the strapping system is the Smart toe set up that features an elastic build to provide consistent tension that allows the goaltender to get effective pushes. Brand new for 2020, Vaughn Custom Sports is proud to unleash their newest version of their Velocity Line, the Vaughn Velocity V9 Intermediate Goalie Leg Pads. With the Velocity line being the most accomplished and successful line of butterfly oriented pads in the last 20 years, Vaughn has made specific and key changes to the V9 Intermediate pads to enhance their visual look, slide and overall performance on the ice. Starting with the graphic, the V9 leg pad features sharp and distinct lines to create a tall visual look. The inside edge is strategically built with Vaughn’s QuickSlide material which is visually and physically different from regular synthetic jenpro. This inside edge has also been reinforced with harder foams. With these harder foams and QuickSlide material, it creates one of the best slides that any Vaughn pad has ever had. Internally, Vaughn has stiffened up the core of the pad, so the pad sits consistently on the goalie’s body over time. With this stiffer core, goalie’s do not need to worry about the pad shrinking as they will get the proper fit and feel throughout the entire life of the pads. The stiffer core also helps with kick rebounds out further than before. This will ultimately help the goalie get rebounds safely to the corner and out of danger. Moving to the top of the pad, the thigh rise has been overly squared to help seal the five hole perfectly on the ice. The top binding has been reshaped and slightly recessed to help closure in the butterfly. While this might be a minor detail, it helps prevent the pads from poking into one another without losing coverage. The outer roll has been dramatically lowered in height to further aid in the closure of the five hole and even save weight. With the lower profile outer roll, the goalie can keep their stick closer to the pads.

Brand new for the fall of 2021, Brian’s Custom Sports proudly introduces their newest pad line to the world; introducing the Brians G-Netik V Pro! While being custom handcrafted in Canada, Brian’s has taken feedback from their pro advisory team and retail consumers alike to provide high end levels of equipment designed for today’s butterfly goaltender. Following the success and popularity of the visual look of the G-Netik IV, Brian’s has added more color zones while keeping the long lines across the legs to visually distract shooters on a flat and laceless pad face. Additionally, the “knee rolls” make their return on the outside of the pad next to the outer roll, keeping the G-Netik V’s legacy as more of a hybrid style pad. Internally, Brian’s has found great success with their Torsion Flex technology and has improved upon it for the G-Netik V, providing the most responsive internal core they have ever made. The torsion flex allows the entire pad to twist and follow a goalie’s natural movements, while still providing a strong seal and rigid shape when set. Coupled with a thicker inner thigh ridge Brian’s had developed and an all new Bri-Core triaxle carbon-fiber composite reinforced thigh, the G-Netik V has significantly increased rigidity through the thigh and a tighter seal at the top of the pad along the ice. All this allows the goalie to make any save they need while moving and still having a solid seal along the ice to keep any pucks from leaking through. Keeping with the success Brian’s has had with both the Optik and G-Netik lines, the G-Netik V has an Opti-Slide inner edge; a bindingless primo sliding surface combined with a higher density foam and laced in knee block to provide goalies with the best slide around. An angled outer roll is more defined on the G-Netik V than you will find on the Optik models, providing a wider looking outer roll while still allowing for a larger blocking surface on the face of the pad. Moving to the back of the pad, Brian’s has kept the simplified Smart Strapping system after receiving nearly universal positive feedback following its introduction. The large Y-shaped calf strap makes its return, running from the inside to the outside of the calf. At the knee, the single strap which can be worn directly behind or angled down to the calf is also back, as well as the removable outer knee flap; allowing for a customized fit to fit any goalie’s preference. New this year is a built in tab to allow for the easy addition of a professor strap to control rotation around the upper calf. Throughout the knee and leg channel, the G-Netik V features a full layer of SBA material on the knee block, back of the pad, outer knee lock and even throughout the shin to help grip the goaltenders leg to prevent over rotation. Down in the boot, the G-Netik V has primo throughout the boot to create a positive rotation for the skate to engage with the ice and also increase durability from the skate rubbing on the pad. The boot and toe have some new updates which include Brian’s new Smart Strap toe cord which is made of an elastic shock cord. This Smart Toe design builds off of their previous generation which provides better durability and a more responsive pad. The boot section is finished with the Smart Strap boot which is made of a high end nylon designed to provide great durability but a lightweight simple strapping system to keep the foot in the pad.
